PRESS RELEASE Consultation meeting on the AIS-140 VLTD installation scheme for passenger vehicles and Public Service Vehicles in Tamil Nadu, chaired by Hon'ble Minister for Transport Thiru A. Vijaya Thamizhan Parthiban. With the AIS-140 VLTD (Vehicle Location Tracking Device) installation scheme for passenger vehicles and Public Service Vehicles being implemented in Tamil Nadu, a consultation meeting was held today (22.05.2026) at the Secretariat, chaired by Hon'ble Minister for Transport Thiru A. Vijaya Thamizhan Parthiban, regarding the pricing of VLTD devices, based on complaints received from lorry owners' associations and school vehicle owners. At the meeting, the Hon'ble Minister for Transport stated the following: Keeping in mind the safety of those travelling in private passenger vehicles and public transport vehicles in Tamil Nadu, the Minister urged representatives of manufacturing companies to come forward and fix fair and uniform prices for the GPS-enabled AIS-140 VLTD monitoring devices, so that vehicle owners benefit. He also instructed transport department officials to raise awareness among vehicle owners and the public regarding VLTD. The meeting also discussed the technical aspects of VLTD devices, control room integration, and the implementation status of the AIS-140 scheme. Following this, in the presence of the Hon'ble Minister for Transport, a presentation was made on the technical aspects, control room integration, and implementation process of AIS-140 VLTD devices. The meeting was attended by senior Transport Department officials, the C-DAC technical team, and representatives of AIS-140 VLTD manufacturing companies.
