Health Minister Arunraj discusses Cauvery-Ponnaiyar-Thirumanimuthar river-linking plan in Namakkal

PRESS RELEASE Hon'ble Minister for Family Welfare Dr. K.G. Arunraj holds consultations with departmental officials on linking the Cauvery, Sonniyar and Thirumanimutharu rivers. At the Tiruchengode Panchayat Union office conference hall, Namakkal District, today (24.05.2026), Hon'ble Minister for Family Welfare Dr. K.G. Arunraj, chaired by District Collector Tmt. Durgamurthy, IAS, and in the presence of Namakkal Member of Parliament Thiru V.S. Maheswaran, held consultations with the Water Resources Department, Local Administration Department, Revenue Department and farmer representatives on various development scheme works. Hon'ble Minister for Family Welfare Dr. K.G. Arunraj told reporters: Consultations were held under the chairmanship of the District Collector, along with farmers' bank representatives and department officials, on the pre-election promise of linking the Cauvery, Sonniyar and Thirumanimutharu rivers and the alignment for this project. By linking the surplus water released from the Mettur Dam with these rivers, lakes in this region can be replenished. The public have also raised requests that insufficient water is reaching all lakes. It has been stated that, since water is being brought to Mangalam lake from the Cauvery river through a new scheme, this project will fully benefit all the lakes. Officials have been instructed to prepare a proposal for this. Consultations will be held with the Hon'ble Minister for Water Resources, and steps will be taken to carry this project forward to the next stage. A dedicated app called "NAMMA THIRUCHENGODU, NAMMA MLA" is being introduced to enable the public of the Tiruchengode Assembly constituency to easily report their grievances. Through this app, the public can directly convey their grievances. I request the public to make use of this app and benefit from it. Hon'ble Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu Thiru C. Joseph Vijay has ordered that quality medical services be made available to all citizens. He has also instructed that strict action be taken if any lapses are found. Maternity services will operate round the clock, said Hon'ble Minister for Family Welfare Dr. K.G. Arunraj. The event was attended by officials from the Water Resources, Local Administration and Revenue departments, as well as farmers' bank representatives.
