Environment Minister Rajeev orders shutdown of consent-violating factories, effluent-dumping units

Press Release A review meeting was held on 25.05.2026 at the conference hall of the Tamil Nadu Pollution Control Board head office campus at Guindy, chaired by Hon'ble Minister for Environment and Climate Change Dr. Ve.K. Rajeev, in the presence of Smt. Supriya Sahu, IAS, Secretary, Environment, Climate Change and Forests Department. At the meeting, key environment-related issues in Tamil Nadu were discussed in detail. Officials were directed to take immediate closure action against factories operating without consent from the Tamil Nadu Pollution Control Board, and to initiate appropriate legal action against factories discharging industrial effluent without setting up effluent treatment plants. Officials were also directed to act in accordance with the Hon'ble Chief Minister's directive to ensure corruption-free, transparent administration. Officials were further instructed to conduct public awareness campaigns on the environmental damage caused by the use of single-use plastic products, and to take strict action against factories manufacturing such products. The review meeting was attended by Thiru Anurag Misra, IFS, Special Secretary/Environment, Climate Change Department; Thiru M. Saravanakumar, Member Secretary, Tamil Nadu Pollution Control Board; and senior officials of the Tamil Nadu Pollution Control Board.
