Press Release Hon'ble Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu Thiru C. Joseph Vijay announces full waiver of crop loans up to Rs.50,000/- taken from cooperative banks by marginal farmers. At a review meeting held today (25.05.2026) at the Secretariat, chaired by the Hon'ble Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu Thiru C. Joseph Vijay, the crop loan waiver for farmers was reviewed together with Hon'ble Minister for Agriculture and Farmers Welfare Thiru M. Vijayanath, Hon'ble Minister for Cooperation Thiru V. Gandhiraj, Hon'ble Minister for Finance, Planning and Development Thiru N. Maria Wilson, and departmental officials. In accordance with the Reserve Bank of India's Model Operational Guidelines dated 28.11.2025 for state loan waiver schemes, which stipulate that the state must pay the full amount of the crop loan waiver within 45 to 60 days, and taking into account the current financial position and resources of the Tamil Nadu Government, the Hon'ble Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu has ordered, even in these difficult circumstances, the waiver of crop loans availed by farmers in cooperative banks between 01.05.2025 and 28.02.2026, as follows. Waiver schedule for marginal farmers: Loan amount up to Rs.50,000 - Waiver: full loan amount (100%) Rs.50,001-60,000 - Waiver Rs.40,000 Rs.60,001-70,000 - Waiver Rs.30,000 Rs.70,001-80,000 - Waiver Rs.20,000 Rs.80,001-90,000 - Waiver Rs.10,000 Rs.90,001-1,00,000 - Waiver Rs.10,000 Above Rs.1,00,000 - Waiver Rs.5,000 Waiver schedule for small farmers: Loan amount up to Rs.50,000 - Waiver: 50 percent of loan amount Rs.50,001-60,000 - Waiver Rs.20,000 Rs.60,001-70,000 - Waiver Rs.15,000 Rs.70,001-80,000 - Waiver Rs.10,000 Rs.80,001-90,000 - Waiver Rs.5,000 Rs.90,001-1,00,000 - Waiver Rs.5,000 Above Rs.1,00,000 - Waiver Rs.5,000 In addition, other large farmers who have taken crop loans from cooperative banks will get a waiver of Rs.5,000/- each. This crop loan waiver will greatly benefit farmers who wish to take fresh loans for the upcoming cultivation season. Under this crop loan waiver scheme, 14,22,555 farmers who took crop loans from cooperative banks between 01.05.2025 and 28.02.2026 will benefit.
