As per the directions of the Hon'ble Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu Thiru C. Joseph Vijay, the Hon'ble Transport Minister Thiru A. Vijay Thamizhan Parthiban today (27-05-2026) held a review of the functioning of Tamil Nadu's State Transport Corporations at the Secretariat. The review meeting was attended by Transport Department Secretary Dr. Ma. Vallalar, IAS; Managing Director, Metropolitan Transport Corporation, Dr. T. Prabhusankar, IAS; Managing Director, State Express Transport Corporation, Thiru R. Mohan; Special Officer Thiru K. Selvan; and other officials of the Transport Department. At the meeting, the Hon'ble Transport Minister directed that reliable public transport, which the public depends heavily upon, must be provided consistently. Following this, the Transport Secretary elaborated in detail on the functioning of the Department and the schemes to be implemented in the coming period. He directed that all avenues to increase the revenue of the State Transport Corporations be explored and implemented, and that everyone act accordingly. He directed that clean drinking water be provided to passengers at bus stations, and that shelters be provided at bus stations lacking shade, through the Municipal Administration/Local Bodies Department. He further directed that full use be made of information technology to improve the functioning of the Transport Department, and that current technology be used in bus operations to provide passengers with real-time information. He also reviewed the bus modernisation scheme. He directed that steps be taken to make bus operations at the Kilambakkam bus terminus convenient for the public without hardship, that the quality of food at eateries where buses halt be ensured, and that facilities needed by passengers be improved. He further directed that villages lacking bus service be identified and that transport facilities be provided there as quickly as possible for the benefit of the public.
