Hon'ble Minister for Energy, Resources and Law Thiru C.D.R. Nirmal Kumar today (27.05.2026) personally met the families of those affected by a lightning strike, offered his condolences, and handed over cheques of Rs.4 lakh each towards relief under the State Disaster Relief Fund.
At around 4.00 p.m. on 26.05.2026, during rain accompanied by lightning at Soolapuram village, Ezhumalai sub-taluk, Peraiyur taluk, Madurai district, three women who were working in the field of one Kurusamy on the road leading to Ezhumalai, and had taken shelter under a tamarind tree, were suddenly struck by lightning and died on the spot: Smt. Ramudhai (aged 60), w/o Rajangam; Smt. Thanikodi (aged 58), w/o Kurusamy, both from Soolapuram village; and Smt. Ganapathy (aged 62), w/o late Pichai, from Seeloyakkanpatti village. Additionally, Smt. Vasiyammal (aged 56), w/o Ponnan, was injured and is undergoing treatment at Madurai Government Rajaji Hospital.
As per the directions of the Hon'ble Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu Thiru C. Joseph Vijay, Hon'ble Minister for Energy, Resources and Law Thiru C.D.R. Nirmal Kumar personally met the families of those who died in the lightning strike, offered his condolences, and handed over cheques of Rs.4 lakh each towards relief under the State Disaster Relief Fund to every affected family.
Earlier, he personally visited Smt. Vasiyammal (aged 56), w/o Ponnan, who was injured in the lightning strike and is being treated at Madurai Government Rajaji Hospital, offered his condolences, and enquired with doctors about the treatment being provided to her.
