CM meets PM Modi: thanks him for Netherlands copper-plate recovery, raises Mekedatu, Tamil Thai Vazhthu and fishermen arrests
CM Joseph Vijay called on PM Narendra Modi at his New Delhi office on May 27, thanking him for recovering the Anamalai copper plates during his Netherlands visit. He sought a Home Ministry clarification allowing Tamil Thai Vazhthu to open state functions again, requested DRDO's proposed Calibration and Bombing System (CABS) facility be set up in Tamil Nadu, opposed Karnataka's planned Mekedatu bhoomi puja as contrary to the CWDT award and Supreme Court verdict, and flagged that 12 Sri Lankan Navy arrests of Tamil Nadu fishermen in 2026 have left 58 fishermen jailed and 266 boats seized, urging the Centre to press Sri Lanka for their immediate release.

Hon'ble Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu Thiru C. Joseph Vijay met and spoke with Hon'ble Prime Minister of India Thiru Narendra Modi at the Prime Minister's Office in New Delhi.
Hon'ble Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu Thiru C. Joseph Vijay met and spoke with the Hon'ble Prime Minister of India Thiru Narendra Modi at the Prime Minister's Office in New Delhi today (27.05.2026), as a courtesy call.
During the meeting, the Hon'ble Prime Minister thanked the Chief Minister for the recovery of the Alanmangalam (Aalavandhan) copper plates during his visit to the Netherlands and their return to India.
The Chief Minister further stated that the state song, Tamil Thai Vazhthu, has always been sung at the commencement of all government functions held in Tamil Nadu, and that following a circular issued by the Union Ministry of Home Affairs in January this year, the National Song is now being sung first at certain specific government functions. In this context, the Hon'ble Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu requested that the Ministry of Home Affairs issue an appropriate clarification enabling the state invocation song to be sung at the commencement of government functions.
Noting that discussions have been under way for the past few years with the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) regarding setting up the Advanced Medium Combat Aircraft (AMCA) design and development centre, and the Centre for Airborne Systems (CABS), in Tamil Nadu, the Hon'ble Chief Minister requested that the Centre for Airborne Systems (CABS) be established in Tamil Nadu.
The Chief Minister stated that the announcement by the Hon'ble Deputy Chief Minister of Karnataka that a Bhoomi Puja would be conducted for the proposed Mekedatu Dam project across the Cauvery river is wholly contrary to the Final Award of the Cauvery Water Disputes Tribunal (CWDT) and the judgment of the Hon'ble Supreme Court, and that this announcement has caused great concern among farmers of Tamil Nadu. He requested that the Hon'ble Prime Minister direct the Ministry of Jal Shakti and the Central Water Commission not to permit the said project without the consent of the co-basin states of Tamil Nadu, Kerala and Puducherry.
The Chief Minister also stated that the arrest and harassment of fishermen from Tamil Nadu by the Sri Lankan navy has increased to a matter of grave concern, with 12 arrest incidents having occurred in 2026 alone, that 58 fishermen are currently in custody in Sri Lanka, and that 266 boats have been seized; he requested that the Government of India urge the Sri Lankan Government to immediately release the fishermen and their boats.
