Higher Education Minister: 3,570 new polytechnic seats created in 3 new Industry 4.0 courses

3 New Departments Started This Academic Year at Polytechnic Colleges, 3,570 New Seats Created — Information from Hon'ble Minister for Higher Education Thiru P. Viswanathan Today (01.06.2026), a review meeting on student admissions to government engineering, arts and science, and polytechnic colleges for the academic year 2026-2027 was held at the Directorate of Collegiate Education, Chennai, chaired by Hon'ble Minister for Higher Education Thiru P. Viswanathan. Addressing the meeting, the Hon'ble Minister for Higher Education said: This government, led by Hon'ble Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu Thiru C. Joseph Vijay, is committed to providing quality education to the students of Tamil Nadu. This year will be a landmark year for education. The Higher Education Department, known for its transparency, will function as per the directions of the Hon'ble Chief Minister. I request professors and non-teaching staff to render their best service. Later, speaking to journalists, the Hon'ble Minister for Higher Education said: Arrangements have been made on the website https://www.tnpoly.in for applying to first-year, lateral second-year and part-time diploma courses, and for uploading certificates, at the 55 Government Polytechnic Colleges in Tamil Nadu for the academic year 2026-2027. Applications for first-year and part-time diploma courses have been arranged to be registered online from 04.05.2026 to 30.06.2026, and as of 31.05.2026, a total of 18,888 candidates — 16,072 male and 2,816 female — have applied for first-year diploma courses. Counselling will be conducted by the respective colleges for applicants and admissions will follow. Industry 4.0 skill centres have been set up in partnership with TATA at 44 government polytechnic colleges in Tamil Nadu. Through these centres, three new departments — Digital Manufacturing Technologies, Automation and Robotics, and Internet of Things (IoT) — are being started at various polytechnic colleges to train students. As a result, a total of 3,570 new seats have been created for the benefit of students. For clarification regarding student admissions, students may contact all government polytechnic colleges and the 110 Tamil Nadu Engineering Admissions (TNEA) Facilitation Centres (TFC Centres) established across Tamil Nadu, between 9 AM and 5 PM. Likewise, registration for Tamil Nadu Engineering Admissions began on 03.05.2026. As of 31.05.2026, 2,81,502 candidates have registered applications. Of these, a total of 2,17,627 candidates — 1,19,968 male and 97,659 female — have paid the application fee. The deadline for application registration, originally 02.06.2026, has been extended to 05.06.2026. Candidates who have registered are requested to upload their certificates by 06.06.2026. The rank number for applicants will be published on the website on 10.06.2026. Since the NATA entrance examination for the B.Arch course will be held until the second week of June, online application registration and certificate uploads for the B.Arch course may be completed until 20.06.2026. Once the HSC Supplementary examination results are announced, the date for registration for TNEA Supplementary Counselling will be announced. Verification of sports certificates for candidates who have applied under the sports quota for outstanding sportspersons has begun, as the first phase, from today (01.06.2026) through the Tamil Nadu Sports Development Authority. This work will continue until 15.06.2026. The schedule details for candidates have been uploaded on the website. In addition, an SMS has been sent individually to each candidate. If candidates need any clarification, 110 TNEA Facilitation Centres (TFC Centres) have been set up across Tamil Nadu, which may be contacted. Further, for the academic year 2026-2027, the 181 government arts and science colleges in Tamil Nadu offer 1,26,959 seats (Shift-I: 1,01,022 / Shift-II: 25,937) across 159 undergraduate subject streams. Students may apply online for their preferred subject streams at their preferred colleges at www.tngasa.in, with registration open from 07.05.2026 to 29.06.2026; as of 29.05.2026, 2,24,034 applications have been received. Following the extension of the upper age limit to 40 from last academic year, in 2026-2027, 1,000 women, 609 men and 4 third-gender candidates above 21 years of age have applied. Counselling for candidates under special reservation categories (differently-abled persons / sportspersons / Andaman and Nicobar Tamil students / ex-servicemen / National Cadet Corps / defence personnel) will be held from 05.06.2026 to 06.06.2026. General counselling will be held at the respective colleges from 08.06.2026. Keeping students' welfare in mind, candidates who missed registering can apply again through www.tngasa.in for a two-day window starting today (01.06.2026). Students unable to apply online themselves may apply through the Admission Facilitation Centres (AFC) available at all government arts and science colleges.
