A foundation-laying ceremony for a new modern student hostel building was held today (02.07.2026) at the Perungudi campus of the Sairam Law School, Tamil Nadu Dr. Ambedkar Law University, aimed at meeting the long-standing needs of students from various districts of the State who study there.
At the event, Hon'ble Minister for Energy and Law, and Co-Chairman of Tamil Nadu Dr. Ambedkar Law University, Thiru C.D.R. Nirmal Kumar, attended as the chief guest, laid the foundation stone for the new student hostel building to be constructed at an estimated cost of Rs. 24.71 crore, and inaugurated the construction works.
The event was chaired by Justice (Retd.) Thiru V. Bharathidasan, Chairman of the Coordination Committee of Tamil Nadu Dr. Ambedkar Law University. Thiru A. Om Prakash, University Coordinator and senior counsel of the committee, presided over the function.
Speaking at the event, the Hon'ble Minister, Thiru C.D.R. Nirmal Kumar, said, "The Government of Tamil Nadu continues to prioritise creating high-quality infrastructure for students. In addition to raising the standard of legal education, the Government is promptly providing all necessary facilities to ensure students study in a peaceful and conducive academic environment. This new student hostel coming up at the Perungudi campus will be a significant milestone in the university's infrastructure development. Once completed, this new hostel will ensure a safe, comfortable and suitable accommodation environment for students coming from distant districts to study here."
The event was graced by University Registrar Prof. Dr. Gowri Ramesh, Campus Director Prof. Dr. Ve. Balaji, and Campus Director Dr. Ashok Kumar, along with other faculty members, senior technical officers of the Public Works Department, and a large number of students.
Highlights of the Building: This modern student hostel building, to be constructed by the Public Works Department (PWD), will stand on 4,160.70 square metres (44,785.40 square feet) with a ground floor plus three floors. The building has been designed with all modern basic amenities to fully meet the educational and accommodation needs of 240 students.
