As per the directive of Hon'ble Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu Thiru C. Joseph Vijay, the Hon'ble Minister for Housing and Urban Development, Thiru P. Rajkumar, along with Thiru Ku. Bhadrakrishnan, Chairman of the Tamil Nadu Urban Habitat Development Board, inspected on 01.07.2026 the ongoing renovation works of apartment complexes at the Chennai Okkiyam Thuraipakkam Kannagi Nagar and Ezhil Nagar scheme areas.
The Hon'ble Minister for Housing and Urban Development, Thiru P. Rajkumar, stated that the Tamil Nadu Urban Habitat Development Board has constructed a total of 23,704 apartment units across 3 scheme areas, spread over 188.59 acres — comprising approximately 15,656 units (ground+1 and ground+2 floors) at the Chennai Okkiyam Thuraipakkam Kannagi Nagar scheme area, 6,000 units (ground+3 floors) at the Ezhil Nagar scheme area, and 2,048 units (ground+3 floors) at the Ezhil Nagar Swami Housing scheme area.
Of the 15,656 total units at the Kannagi Nagar scheme area, renovation works have been undertaken for 9,152 units at an estimated cost of Rs. 40 crore; renovation of the remaining 6,504 units is yet to be undertaken. Of the 6,000 total units at Ezhil Nagar, renovation of 3,232 units is currently underway at a cost of Rs. 40 crore.
