Food Minister Visits Chennai Consumer Disputes Redressal Commissions, Reviews Case Backlog

PRESS RELEASE Hon'ble Minister for Food and Civil Supplies, Thiru P. Venkataramanan, visited the Tamil Nadu State Consumer Disputes Redressal Commission and the District Consumer Disputes Redressal Commissions (Chennai North and South) situated within it, as well as the Chennai Consumer Forum Advocates' Association, in Chennai on 02.07.2026. He enquired about the basic facilities provided for the public in the court premises, office functioning, procedures for filing petitions, the status of case hearings, and details of pending cases. He then met with advocates at the office of the Consumer Forum Advocates' Association and discussed the functioning of consumer redressal bodies, challenges faced by the public, speedy resolution of cases, and further improving the efficiency of court proceedings. Speaking with officials, the Hon'ble Minister said that the Government of Tamil Nadu remains firmly committed to protecting consumer rights, and instructed officials to ensure that the public can file their grievances without any difficulty and receive prompt resolution. The event was attended by Hon'ble Justice Thiru R. Subbaiah, Chairman of the Tamil Nadu State Consumer Disputes Redressal Commission; Chairpersons and Members of the Chennai North and South District Consumer Disputes Redressal Commissions; senior departmental officials; office-bearers of the Chennai Consumer Forum Advocates' Association; and advocates.
