Viswanathan inaugurates seminar on "Future of Engineering Curriculum – Enhancing Graduate Employability" organised by the Tamil Nadu State Council for Higher Education At an event held today [07.07.2026] at a private hotel in Chennai, the Hon'ble Minister for Higher Education, Thiru Se. Viswanathan, inaugurated a seminar titled "Future of Engineering Curriculum – Enhancing Graduate Employability", organised by the Tamil Nadu State Council for Higher Education. Speaking at the event, the Hon'ble Minister for Higher Education said: "I am pleased to take part in this seminar. Quality engineering education plays a crucial role in shaping the future of the nation. Engineering curricula must be continuously updated to keep pace with the rapidly changing technological and industrial landscape. Curriculum reforms must be undertaken with graduate employability at their core. For future engineering graduates, multidisciplinary learning, the ability to handle challenges, and a mindset of continuous skill acquisition are indispensable. The Government of Tamil Nadu remains firmly committed to improving the quality of higher education and the employability of students. I commend the Tamil Nadu State Council for Higher Education for organising the 'Higher Education Dialogues' series as a platform that offers useful recommendations for shaping higher education policy." Ponnaiah, IAS; Director of Technical Education, Thiru P. Rathinasamy, IAS; Vice-Chairman of the Tamil Nadu State Council for Higher Education, Dr. M.V. Vijayakumar, IAS (Retd.); Chancellor of Krea University and former Chief Operating Officer of Cognizant, Dr. Lakshmi Narayanan; Professor of Eminence at Anna University, Dr. C.N. Krishnan; Chair of the Centre for Teaching-Learning at IIT Madras, Prof. Edamana Prasad; Chairman of Chennai Institute of Technology, Thiru Sriram Parthasarathy; Associate Professor at Panimalar Engineering College, Dr. Vajan P. Philip; and Anna University alumnus and founder of Scrapify Ecotech, Thiru M.P. Azhagu Pandiya Raja, who all took part and shared their views. The group held detailed discussions on strengthening collaboration between industry and higher-education institutions, experiential learning, multidisciplinary education, innovation, entrepreneurial skills, and Outcome-Based Learning, in order to improve engineering curricula. The recommendations arising from this discussion will be compiled and submitted to the Government of Tamil Nadu to inform future policy on engineering education. The event was also attended by educators, industry representatives, teachers, researchers, students and various stakeholders from the higher education sector, who participated in a productive exchange of ideas that will help shape the future of engineering education in Tamil Nadu.
