I was deeply saddened and pained to learn of the tragic accident that occurred on the morning of 5.7.2026 on the Kumbakonam road near Panickankuppam village, Panruti taluk, Cuddalore district, when a Tata Ace vehicle collided from behind with a tractor that was transporting cashew logs from Marungur village towards Panruti in Panruti taluk. In the accident, the following persons travelling in the Tata Ace vehicle on their way to work — Tmt. Sathya (aged 31), wife of Sathish, and Tmt. Selvarani (aged 58), wife of Swaminathan, and Keezhur Mathura, of Sengadambettai village, Krishnagiri taluk; and Tmt. Kanthimathi (aged 60), wife of Kothandapani, and Thiru Ravichandran (aged 58), son of Ramakkannu, of Ayippettai village — sustained severe injuries and lost their lives.
I have ordered special medical treatment for the seven persons who sustained serious injuries in this accident and are undergoing treatment in hospital — Thiru Ukkiravel (aged 48), Thiru Santhosh (aged 37), Tmt. Devaki (aged 50), Tmt. Anjalai (aged 60), Thiru Sathish (aged 35), Tmt. Vijaya (aged 35) and Thiru Chandrakumar (aged 35) — as well as for Thiru Ammasamy (aged 50), who sustained minor injuries and is also undergoing treatment in hospital.
I convey my deepest condolences and sympathies to the families and relatives of the four persons who lost their lives in this accident. I have also ordered that Rs. 3 lakh each be paid to the families of the deceased, Rs. 1 lakh each to those who sustained serious injuries and are undergoing hospital treatment, and Rs. 50,000 to the person who sustained minor injuries and is undergoing hospital treatment, from the Chief Minister's Public Relief Fund.
