On the morning of 06.07.2026, at the open-air direct paddy procurement centre at Arasuthippattu, Orathanadu Taluk, Thanjavur District, stacked paddy bags collapsed and fell on two women who were seated nearby. I was deeply saddened and pained to learn that Thirumathi Chinnaponnu (aged 55), wife of the late Kasinathan, died on the spot in this tragic accident.
Further, I have ordered that Thirumathi Sakunthala (aged 25), wife of Muruganandam, who sustained minor injuries in the accident and is admitted at Thanjavur Government Medical College Hospital, be given specialised treatment.
I convey my deep condolences and sympathy to the family and relatives of the deceased. I have also ordered that Rs. 3 lakh be given to the family of the deceased, and Rs. 50,000 to the person who sustained minor injuries and is undergoing treatment in hospital, from the Chief Minister's Public Relief Fund.
