Applications Open for MGR Government Film and Television Institute Degree Courses

PRESS RELEASE Directorate of Information and Public Relations Tamil Nadu Government M.G.R. Film and Television Institute (Affiliated to Tamil Nadu Dr. J. Jayalalithaa Music and Fine Arts University) The Tamil Nadu Government M.G.R. Film and Television Institute is the only educational institution that has been functioning under the Directorate of Information and Public Relations, Government of Tamil Nadu, for over 60 years. This institute is a unique institution that has been producing highly skilled technicians and directors in the fields of film and television. Being the first of its kind in India to offer film technology courses, the Institute has, since the academic year 2016-2017, been affiliated with the Tamil Nadu Dr. J. Jayalalithaa Music and Fine Arts University and has been conducting four-year Bachelor of Visual Arts degree programmes. Applications are now invited online for student admission to the following streams of the degree programme for the academic year 2026-2027 at the Tamil Nadu Government M.G.R. Film and Television Institute: 1. Bachelor of Visual Arts (Cinematography) 2. Bachelor of Visual Arts (Digital Intermediate) 3. Bachelor of Visual Arts (Audiography) 4. Bachelor of Visual Arts (Direction and Screenplay Writing) 5. Bachelor of Visual Arts (Film Editing) 6. Bachelor of Visual Arts (Animation and Visual Effects) Hence, all students interested in the arts are requested to join the above-mentioned subject streams and benefit from them. It is further informed that, as the first step, from 10.00 AM on 12.05.2026, candidates may complete the student admission application form on the website www.filminstitute.tn.gov.in as per the instructions in the User Manual, pay the application fee and register; and as a second step, all relevant documents may be uploaded by 5.00 PM on 02.06.2026.
