A consultation meeting with officials of all departments regarding development works being undertaken in the district was held today (06.06.2026) at the conference hall of the Government Guest House, Madurai District, chaired by Hon'ble Minister for Energy, Natural Resources and Law Thiru. Speaking at the meeting, Hon'ble Minister for Energy, Natural Resources and Law Thiru. C.D.R. Nirmal Kumar stated:
A consultation meeting was held today regarding temporary arrangements for the discharge of sewage water in certain areas of Madurai Corporation. Further, with regard to the irregularities reportedly committed in Madurai Corporation, on the instructions of the Hon'ble Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu, the District Collector and the Corporation Commissioner will jointly carry out a comprehensive assessment. Based on the inquiry, strict action will be taken against those found responsible, regardless of who they are.
A detailed assessment is also being carried out regarding the allegations that irregularities in the Corporation caused a revenue loss of several hundred crore rupees to the Government. Based on the findings, the District Collector and the Corporation Commissioner will issue the appropriate announcements.
The specific locations where violations and irregularities have taken place in the Corporation will be identified, and cases will be registered accordingly. Wherever corruption or irregularity has occurred, it will be swiftly identified and a thorough inquiry conducted. Firm legal action will be taken against those found responsible, regardless of who they are. Furthermore, if bars are found operating illegally at closed TASMAC outlets, strict action will be taken against those involved.
