Water Resources Minister Anand Reviews Integrated Water Resource Development Projects, Chennai Flood Mitigation Works

PRESS RELEASE As per the directions of the Hon'ble Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu, a review meeting of the Water Resources Department was held today (15.06.2026), chaired by the Hon'ble Minister for Rural Development and Water Resources Thiru N. Anand. At the meeting, discussions covered new irrigation infrastructure works being undertaken under the Integrated Water Resources Development Scheme, restoration works of existing irrigation infrastructure, groundwater development schemes, flood prevention and mitigation measures, dam management, coastal erosion prevention measures, restoration, improvement and conservation of water bodies, annual maintenance works, desilting works, and pre-monsoon works. Further, Chennai's flood mitigation works, works announced in previous years, newly announced works, and sources of funding were also reviewed. The Minister directed that works be carried out swiftly and with quality, and made available for use. The Minister directed the Department's Chief Secretary that, if any complaints are received, proper inquiries be conducted and departmental action taken against the concerned officials. The review meeting was attended by Chief Secretary, Water Resources Department, Dr. Sathya Pratha Bahu, IAS; Special Secretary, Water Resources Department, Thiru Su. Sreedharan; Chief Engineer-in-Chief, Water Resources Department, Thiru S. Gopalakrishnan; and zonal and operations Chief Engineers of the department.
