This institute is a distinctive institution that has produced highly skilled technicians and directors in the fields of film and television. The Tamil Nadu Government M.G.R. Film and Television Training Institute, the first institution in India to be affiliated with a university - Tamil Nadu Dr. J. Jayalalithaa Music and Fine Arts University - for film technology courses, has been offering four-year Bachelor of Visual Arts degree programmes since the 2016-2017 academic year. Following the earlier announcement that online applications (via www.filminstitute.tn.gov.in) for first-year admission to the degree programmes in the following streams for the 2026-2027 academic year would be accepted from 12.05.2026 until 5.00 PM on 14.06.2026, it is hereby announced that the deadline has been extended, for administrative reasons, until 5.00 PM on 21.06.2026. 1.
