PRESS RELEASE Hyundai Shipbuilding delegation calls on Hon'ble Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu, Thiru C. Joseph Vijay, regarding the establishment of shipbuilding project in Thoothukudi, involving an investment of approximately Rs.38,000 Crore and generating around 15,000 direct employment opportunities. A high-level delegation from HD KSOE (HD Korea Shipbuilding & Offshore Engineering), South Korea led by Mr. Young Hoon Kwon, Director, Global Business called on the Hon'ble Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu Thiru C. Joseph Vijay to discuss the progress of the mega greenfield shipbuilding cluster in Thoothukudi. HD KSOE, one of the world's largest shipbuilders, has signed an MOU with Government of Tamil Nadu for establishing a state-of-the-art shipbuilding cluster in Thoothukudi with a proposed investment of approximately Rs.38,000 Crore (USD 4 billion) and expected to generate around 15,000 direct employment opportunities while creating a significant multiplier effect through ancillary industries and the local supply chain. For this project, National Shipbuilding & Heavy Industries Park Tamil Nadu Limited (NSHIPTN) was formed between SIPCOT and VOC Port Authority (VOCPA) and obtained the first in- principle approval for the establishment of a greenfield shipbuilding cluster from Directorate General of Shipping, Government of India. The Hon'ble Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu reiterated that the Government of Tamil Nadu's commitment to facilitate the timely establishment of this strategic project in Thoothukudi and assured the delegation of proactive institutional support at every stage of project implementation. During the meeting, the delegation briefed the Hon'ble Chief Minister of the progress made and reaffirmed HD KSOE keen interest in grounding this project at the earliest. Selvi S.
