Handlooms Minister Chairs Review of Weaver Welfare Schemes

PRESS RELEASE Review meeting of District/Assistant Directors of the Handlooms Department held under the chairmanship of Hon'ble Minister for Handlooms, Textiles and Khadi Thiru M. Vijay Balaji. As per the directive of the Hon'ble Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu, a review meeting of the Handlooms Department was held today, 18.06.2026, at the Handlooms Directorate conference hall, under the chairmanship of Hon'ble Minister for Handlooms, Textiles and Khadi Thiru M. Vijay Balaji. At the meeting, detailed discussions were held on the schemes being implemented by the Handlooms Department, including the scheme for providing veshti-work, the scheme for distributing uniforms to school students, the establishment of the Arani Handloom Silk Park, free power supply to handloom and powerloom weavers, the Handloom Support Scheme, the Weavers' Mudra Scheme, the rebate/subsidy scheme, the functioning of handloom and powerloom weavers' cooperative societies, welfare assistance provided to handloom weavers, and the National Handloom Day celebrations to be held on 07.08.2026. The Hon'ble Minister for Handlooms, Textiles and Khadi gave directions regarding the implementation of the "Vetri Thamizhagam" vision-document schemes, namely the weavers' assistance amount, subsidy for procurement of raw materials for weaving, life insurance, savings and security scheme, integrated weavers' townships, educational assistance for weavers' children, Vetri Thari (Victory Loom) scheme, Thalaar Napel subsidy, and Kanchipuram Silk Tourism. The event was attended by Thiru T.N. Senkamadesh, IAS, Principal Secretary, Handlooms, Handicrafts, Textiles and Khadi Department; Tmt. P. Uma Maheswari, IAS, Director of Handlooms; senior officials of the Handlooms Department; District/Assistant Directors and Assistant Enforcement Officers of the Handlooms Department; and officials of NEHHDC/HANDLOOM APEX bodies.
