TN Raises Food, Uniform and Kit Allowances for 2,600 Hostel Athletes by Rs 12.67 Crore

PRESS RELEASE As per the directive of the Hon'ble Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu, an additional Rs.12.67 crore has been provided for food, uniforms and sports equipment for 2,600 hostel sportspersons, in order to encourage Tamil Nadu's sportspersons. Announcement by Hon'ble Minister for Public Works and Sports Development, Thiru Aadhav Arjuna ********** To mark the 52nd birthday of the Hon'ble Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu, additional funds have been allocated for the daily diet allowance, uniforms and sports equipment of 2,600 boys and girls training at the sports hostels, special sports hostels and Centres of Excellence of the Tamil Nadu Sports Development Authority, so as to encourage them and enhance their skills - as announced by Hon'ble Minister for Public Works and Sports Development Thiru Aadhav Arjuna. 1. Increase in the daily diet allowance The Hon'ble Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu has ordered that the daily diet allowance for the 2,600 boys and girls training at the sports hostels, special sports hostels and Centres of Excellence of the Tamil Nadu Sports Development Authority be increased from Rs.350/- to Rs.450/- per day per person, in order to provide nutritious food for their skill development. By raising the expenditure for this from Rs.29.12 crore to Rs.37.44 crore, an additional Rs.8.32 crore has been ordered to be provided. 2. Increase in the amount for uniforms To enable daily use and hygienic play, the uniform allowance for school students training at the sports hostels and Centres of Excellence has been raised from Rs.6,000/- to Rs.15,000/-, and for college students at the special sports hostels, from Rs.10,000/- to Rs.25,000/-, with the expenditure for this being raised from Rs.1.70 crore to Rs.4.25 crore. An additional Rs.2.55 crore has been allocated for this. 3. Increase in the amount for sports equipment To enhance individual skill, the amount for purchase of sports equipment for specialised training for school students at the sports hostels and Centres of Excellence has been raised from Rs.2,000/- to Rs.10,000/-, with the expenditure for this being raised from Rs.80 lakh to Rs.2.60 crore. An additional Rs.1.80 crore has been allocated for this. Hon'ble Minister for Public Works and Sports Development Thiru Aadhav Arjuna announced that an additional Rs.12.67 crore has been provided for food, uniforms and sports equipment for the 2,600 hostel sportspersons of the Tamil Nadu Sports Development Authority, raising the total expenditure from Rs.31.72 crore to Rs.44.39 crore. ****************** Issued By: Director, DIPR, Chennai-9
