In accordance with the directions of the Hon'ble Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu, a joint review meeting was held today (25.06.2026) at the Secretariat, chaired by the Hon'ble Minister for Food and Civil Supplies Thiru P. Vengadaramanan and the Hon'ble Minister for Social Welfare and Women's Rights Tmt. Ku. Segadeeswari, regarding the operation and improvement of schemes under which food items are supplied to the Social Welfare and Women's Rights Department by the Tamil Nadu Civil Supplies Corporation.
At the meeting, officials were instructed to work towards making the food items provided under the Chief Minister's Breakfast Scheme more appealing to children, and to ensure that the food items supplied for the Noon Meal Scheme, the Integrated Child Development Scheme (ICDS) and Government Child Care Institutions are of good quality and nutritionally rich; officials were also instructed to ensure that rice is properly cleaned and that items such as chickpeas are soaked well before cooking.
Officials were instructed to procure food items for old-age homes from the Tamil Nadu Civil Supplies Corporation. It was also directed that procurement of other food items required for the schemes of the Social Welfare and Women's Rights Department be encouraged through the Amudham general stores run by the Tamil Nadu Civil Supplies Corporation.
Officials were instructed to expeditiously complete, by 15th July, the settlement of dues amounting to Rs.500 crore that have remained outstanding for the past 5-6 years, payable to the Tamil Nadu Civil Supplies Corporation by the Social Welfare and Women's Rights Department, and to clear the payment.
It was further discussed that millet-based food items, including thinai (foxtail millet), be added to the food currently supplied under the Chief Minister's Breakfast Scheme.
Officials were instructed to ensure that food items under the above schemes are delivered on time without any delay.
The meeting was attended by Chairman and Managing Director of the Tamil Nadu Civil Supplies Corporation Dr. Pu. Umanath, IAS, Secretary of the Social Welfare and Women's Rights Department Tmt. Mariam Pallavi Baldev, IAS, Director of Social Welfare Tmt. Maheswari Ravikumar, IAS, Director of the Integrated Child Development Scheme Tmt. Santhi, IAS, and other senior government officials.
