PRESS RELEASE Hon'ble Minister for Food and Civil Supplies Thiru P. Vengadaramanan distributed new electronic family cards to 608 beneficiaries under Chennai North Zone. At an event held today (15.07.2026) at S.K. Mahal, Kannadasan Nagar, Kodungaiyur, Chennai, Hon'ble Minister for Food and Civil Supplies Thiru P. Vengadaramanan distributed new electronic family cards to 300 beneficiaries under the Perambur area. Subsequently, at an event held at the Greater Chennai Corporation's Neithal Marriage Hall in Thandaiyarpet, he distributed new electronic family cards to 308 beneficiaries under the R.K. Nagar, Royapuram and Tiruvottiyur areas, and reiterated the Government's commitment to ensuring that its welfare schemes reach the people swiftly. Speaking at the event, the Hon'ble Minister advised the public to recognise the importance of essential food items such as rice, sugar, dal and palm oil supplied through the Fair Price Shops, and to obtain the goods they require through proper channels. He further explained in detail that paddy is procured from farmers and processed into rice at the Tamil Nadu Civil Supplies Corporation's modern rice mill and private rice mills, and that essential items such as sugar, dal and palm oil are procured from traders at open market prices, subjected to quality checks, and then supplied to the public free of cost or at subsidised prices. The Hon'ble Minister further stated that a receipt must be compulsorily obtained every time goods are purchased at Fair Price Shops, which will ensure transparency in distribution and, with public cooperation, help effectively prevent the diversion of food items meant for the public into the open market. Supporting officials and members of the public attended these events. Issued By: - Director, Department of Information and Public Relations, Chennai-9
