PRESS RELEASE With the blessings of the Hon'ble Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu, Thiru C. Joseph Vijay, the Hon'ble Minister for Animal Husbandry, Tmt. S. Kamali, inaugurated the newly constructed Girls' Hostel Buildings for the Veterinary College and Research Institute (VCRI), Tirunelveli and the Veterinary College and Research Institute (VCRI), Orathanadu, on 15 July 2026 at 10.00 a.m. at the Tamil Nadu Veterinary and Animal Sciences University (TANUVAS), Madhavaram Milk Colony Campus, Chennai. The newly constructed additional Girls' Hostel facility at VCRI, Tirunelveli, built at a cost of ₹475.00 lakh, and the additional Girls' Hostel facility at VCRI, Orathanadu, constructed at a cost of ₹456.00 lakh, have been established to provide safe and comfortable residential facilities for undergraduate and postgraduate veterinary girl students. The inaugural function was graced by Tmt. Anu George, IAS, Secretary to Government, Animal Husbandry, Dairying, Fisheries and Fishermen Welfare Department, and Dr. R. Narendra Babu, Registrar and Vice-Chancellor (i/c), TANUVAS. University Officers, faculty members, staff and students of TANUVAS participated in the programme and witnessed the inauguration. Following the inauguration, the Hon'ble Minister reviewed the various academic, research, extension, and infrastructure development activities being carried out at the TANUVAS Madhavaram Campus. The Minister appreciated the University's efforts and emphasized the importance of creating world-class infrastructure to support quality education and student welfare. The Hon'ble Minister also paid homage to the portrait of Perunthalaivar Kamarajar on the occasion of his 124th birth anniversary. Dr. S.C. Edwin, Dean, Veterinary College and Research Institute, Tirunelveli, along with the faculty, staff and students of the institute, and Dr. T.A. Kannan, Dean, Veterinary College and Research Institute, Orathanadu, along with the faculty, staff and students of the institute, participated in the programme through video conferencing from their respective campuses.
