PRESS RELEASE Arignar Anna Swimming Pool, renovated at a cost of Rs. 2.75 crore, inaugurated by the Hon'ble Minister for Public Works and Sports Development, Thiru Aadhav Arjuna The Arignar Anna Swimming Pool, renovated at a cost of Rs. 2.75 crore through the Tamil Nadu Sports Development Authority, was inaugurated today (23.07.2026) by the Hon'ble Minister for Public Works and Sports Development, Thiru Aadhav Arjuna. This swimming pool, originally constructed by the Public Works Department and administered by the Education Department, is presently maintained under the Tamil Nadu Sports Development Authority. The main pool, measuring 50 metres in length, 25 metres in width, and 4-12 feet in depth, and the Warmup Pool, measuring 25 metres in length, 15 metres in width, and 2.5-3.5 feet in depth, have been renovated to a high standard at a cost of Rs. 2.75 crore. The damaged flooring and wall tiles of the swimming pools have been replaced. New pipelines, pumps, filtration systems, starting blocks, ladders and gratings have also been installed, providing swimmers with facilities to train in a safe and high-quality environment. Additionally, an air-conditioned gymnasium spanning 1,500 sq. ft. has been set up. Four coaches have been appointed to train swimmers and members of the public. Further, construction work for new swimming pools is underway at the Madurai District Sports Complex at an estimated cost of Rs. 12.50 crore, and at the Theni District Sports Complex at an estimated cost of Rs. 6.27 crore. Renovation work is also underway for the swimming pool at Hosur Mini Sports Complex, Krishnagiri District, at an estimated cost of Rs. 23 lakh, and for the swimming pool at Velachery, Chennai, at an estimated cost of Rs. 16.35 crore — bringing the total value of work on 4 swimming pools across Tamil Nadu to Rs. 35.35 crore.
