MGR Film Institute opens special round admissions for vacant seats

PRESS RELEASE The Tamil Nadu Government M.G.R. Film and Television Training Institute (affiliated to the Tamil Nadu Dr. J. Jayalalithaa Music and Fine Arts University), Chennai 600113, functioning under the Directorate of Information and Public Relations, conducted the regular student admission process for undergraduate visual arts degree programmes for the academic year 2026-2027. Certain vacant seats reserved for the reservation round are to be filled in the following categories: S.No. 1: Cinematography – BC – 1; MBC/DNC – 1; SIFCC* – 1 S.No. 2: Digital Intermediate – 7.5% Govt. School – 1; SC/ST – 2; MBC/DNC – 2; BC – 4; OC – 1; Other State – 1 S.No. 3: Audiography – 7.5% Govt. School – 1; SC/ST – 1; MBC/DNC – 2; BC – 4; Other State – 1 S.No. 4: Film Editing – MBC/DNC – 2; OC – 1 S.No. 5: Animation and Visual Effects – SC/ST – 1; BC – 2 * To establish that the applicant's father or mother is affiliated with the film industry, a certificate issued by the South Indian Film Chamber of Commerce (SIFCC) along with a copy of the identity card must be enclosed with the application. From 27.07.2026, the admission application form is available on the website www.filminstitute.tn.gov.in, to be completed as per the instructions in the User Manual, with the application fee paid and registration completed, and all relevant documents uploaded by 5.00 PM on 05.08.2026. Therefore, all students interested in the visual arts are requested to enrol in the above-mentioned courses and benefit from them.
