TAMIL NADU ENGINEERING ADMISSIONS (TNEA) – 2026 Directorate of Technical Education, Chennai As per the schedule of TNEA-2026, Special Counselling for Government School and General category candidates was held from 13.07.2026 to 19.07.2026, during which 950 seats were allotted and students admitted. This was followed by entry of choice lists for the First Round of Counselling from 20.07.2026 to 22.07.2026, during which 32,250 candidates registered their preferred colleges and courses. Of these, 28,550 candidates were allotted seats based on merit ranking, seat availability at colleges, and their choice list. Prior to publishing the allotment order to candidates, on 23.07.2026, 33 professors from 11 Government Engineering Colleges were personally invited to physically verify that allotments had been made strictly on the basis of merit ranking and choice list. Candidates who received Tentative allotment orders should report in person to the TFC (Tamil Nadu Facilitation Centre) mentioned in their choice, while candidates who received Provisional allotment orders should report in person to the allotted college, and complete admission by submitting original certificates and paying the tuition fee between 26.07.2026 and 30.07.2026. Candidates may include as many college and course preferences as they wish in their choice list; a robust and secure software system has been designed and deployed to process this. A meeting was held on 16.07.2026 at the Vivekananda Auditorium, Anna University, under the chairmanship of the Director of Technical Education, for all college Principals and admission centre officials to explain the admission process, attended by representatives from 423 colleges. The meeting explained how admissions are confirmed online. The Director of Technical Education also stressed to Principals that no fee should be collected from Government School quota (7.5%) candidates, and that colleges must not make irregular admissions using candidates' details without authorisation. It was also stated that colleges failing to follow this process, or any complaints that come to light regarding the process, will be investigated and appropriate action taken.
