World Tamil Research Institute Opens Summer Training on Palm-Leaf Manuscripts and Inscriptions

PRESS RELEASE Summer Training Programme on Epigraphy and Manuscriptology for 2026 The Department of Tamil Literature and Manuscriptology at the World Tamil Sangam (Institute of Asian Studies), Chennai, will conduct a summer training course on palm-leaf manuscripts and epigraphy for 20 days (excluding Sundays), starting from 15th June, from 10 AM to 4 PM. The training will cover preservation, transcription, and publication of manuscripts. Like literary works, inscriptions found on rocks and temples serve as important sources for studying Tamil Nadu's history. These inscriptions are of great antiquity, and studying them is a valuable exercise. Researchers pursuing studies on Tamil literature, culture and history can benefit from this training course. The first 30 participants will be selected on a priority basis and trained.
