PRESS RELEASE The Hon'ble Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu, Thiru C. Joseph Vijay, paid floral tributes at the memorial of the Honourable Quaid-e-Millath, on the occasion of his 131st birth anniversary. On the occasion of the 131st birth anniversary of the Honourable Quaid-e-Millath, the Hon'ble Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu, Thiru C. Joseph Vijay, today (5.6.2026), paid floral tributes at his memorial located at the Wallajah Big Mosque Complex, Triplicane, Chennai. The Honourable Quaid-e-Millath was born on 5.6.1896 at Bhoothapandi (Pottai), Tirunelveli District. His original name was Mohammed Ismail. It was the Honourable Quaid-e-Millath's community service that led him into politics. Throughout his public life, he upheld dignity, honesty and integrity, while continuously serving the nation and his faith. Inspired by the ideals of Mahatma Gandhi, he was one of the senior leaders of the Congress Party for 16 years from 1920, fighting for the country's independence. He also served as the President of the Madras Presidency Muslim League from 1945, and as President of the Indian Union Muslim League from 1948. He was elected as a member of the Madras Presidency Legislative Assembly in 1946, and served with distinction as the Leader of the Opposition in the Assembly, as well as a member of the Constituent Assembly. He was also elected as a member of the Rajya Sabha in 1952, and as a member of the Lok Sabha from 1962 to 1972, serving the people. For his simple lifestyle, honesty and noble character, the people honoured him with the exalted title 'Quaid-e-Millath', calling him 'The Honourable Quaid-e-Millath'.
