Press Release In honour of his sacrifice, Hon'ble Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu Thiru. C. Joseph Vijay has ordered that Velachery Road, within the limits of Tambaram Municipal Corporation, be renamed "Major Mukund Varadarajan Salai". The Hon'ble Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu graciously considered a request that Velachery Road, within the limits of Tambaram Municipal Corporation, be named after Major Mukund Varadarajan, AVSM, SC, SM, who served with distinction in the Indian Army, was martyred in action, and was posthumously awarded India's Ashoka Chakra. In honour of the memory of this soldier who laid down his life for the nation, a Government Order was issued on 23.06.2026 naming Velachery Road, within the limits of Tambaram Municipal Corporation, as "Major Mukund Varadarajan Salai" in Tamil and "MAJOR MUKUND VARADARAJAN SALAI" in English.
