Joseph Vijay marking Thiyagigal Naal (Martyrs' Day) My salute to the martyrs Thiyagi Arya alias Bashyam, Thiyagi Sankaralinganar, and Thiyagi Chembagaraman, who gave up their lives for India's freedom and for the dignity of the people's rights, on the occasion of Martyrs' Day. The brave martyr Thiyagi Arya alias Bashyam, who broke the arrogance of British authority by lowering the British Union Jack that flew over the bastion of St. George's Fort, Chennai, and hoisting the Indian tricolour in its place; Thiyagi Sankaralinganar, who gave up his life through a continuous fast unto death for the noble cause of having our State named "Tamil Nadu"; and the valiant martyr Chembagaraman, who gave the slogan "Jai Hind" to the freedom struggle and rallied international support for India's independence — the tireless labour and selfless sacrifice of all of them deserve eternal reverence. Let us embrace the noble values of these martyrs as our way of life, and build a new society founded on humanity and patriotism!
