Transport Dept fixes uniform pricing for Vehicle Location Tracking Devices at Rs 5,099

Press Note regarding fixing of charges for Vehicle Location Tracking Devices (VLTD) fitted in public transport and other applicable vehicles Based on complaints received from vehicle owners that varying and excess charges are being collected in different places for Vehicle Location Tracking Devices (VLTD) fitted in public transport and other applicable vehicles in Tamil Nadu, a consultation meeting was held on 13.07.2026 at the Secretariat with all accredited VLTD manufacturers, chaired by the Hon'ble Minister for Transport, Thiru. After detailed deliberation, the following decisions were reached at the meeting to ensure that Vehicle Location Tracking Devices, compliant with the AIS-140 standard, are sold uniformly and fairly across Tamil Nadu, and that vehicle owners receive transparent, quality and reliable service: (i) The Vehicle Location Tracking Device (VLTD), with one year's subscription and 2 SIM cards, shall not exceed Rs.5,099 + GST. (ii) Each additional/replacement Panic Button provided shall not exceed Rs.150 + GST. VLTDs must be fitted in Tamil Nadu at these rates. The manufacturers unanimously agreed to this.
