The Hon'ble Minister for Public Works and Sports Development, Thiru. Adav Arjuna, today (30.07.2026), at the Secretariat, presented pension orders to 13 economically weaker former sportspersons, family pension orders to 3 persons, pension arrears, and appointment orders to 6 coaches.
A pension scheme for economically weaker sportspersons is being implemented through the Tamil Nadu Sports Development Authority. Under this scheme, the Hon'ble Minister for Public Works and Sports Development, Thiru. Adav Arjuna, presented pension orders to 13 economically weaker former sportspersons along with cheques for pension arrears totalling Rs.9.36 lakh, family pension orders to 3 persons along with cheques for pension arrears totalling Rs.4.77 lakh, and appointment orders to 6 coaches (4 women and 2 men).
In recognition of their outstanding contribution to sports, and to support their livelihood after retirement, a monthly pension of Rs.6,000 is provided to economically weaker former sportspersons who have attained the age of 58. Under this scheme, 82 economically weaker former sportspersons and 13 family pensioners are currently benefiting from the pension.
