CM Joseph Vijay confers Police Medals on 630 personnel, flags off new coastal patrol vehicles

Joseph Vijay, presented and felicitated officers/personnel who rendered outstanding service in the Police, Prisons and Correctional Services, and Fire and Rescue Services departments with the President's Police Medals, Union Home Minister's Police Medals and Tamil Nadu Chief Minister's Medals declared for the years 2023 to 2026, and also flagged off the service of 42 new four-wheeler and 96 two-wheeler patrol vehicles procured at a cost of Rs.8.27 crore for the Coastal Security Group. The Hon'ble Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu, Thiru S. Joseph Vijay, at the medal presentation function held today (31.7.2026) at the Rajarathinam Stadium, Egmore, Chennai, presented and felicitated officers/personnel who rendered outstanding service in the Police, Prisons and Correctional Services, and Fire and Rescue Services departments with the President's Police Medals, Union Home Minister's Police Medals and Tamil Nadu Chief Minister's Medals declared for the years 2023 to 2026. He also flagged off the service of 42 new four-wheeler and 96 two-wheeler patrol vehicles procured at a cost of Rs.8 crore 27 lakh for the Coastal Security Group. Presentation of President's Police Medals, Union Home Minister's Police Medals and Tamil Nadu Chief Minister's Medals At this function, the following special service medals were presented: President's Police Medal for Meritorious Service - 2024, 2025 and 2026; President's Police Medal for Distinguished Service - 2023, 2024, 2025 and 2026; Union Home Minister's Police Medal for Excellence in Investigation - 2023; Union Home Minister's Police Medal for Exceptional Intelligence Skill - 2023; Union Home Minister's Police Medal for Distinguished Investigation - 2023; Union Home Minister's Medal for Best Investigation Skill - 2024; Union Home Minister's Medal for Best Intelligence Skill - 2024; Tamil Nadu Chief Minister's Police Special Service Medal for Social Service - 2024 and 2025; Tamil Nadu Chief Minister's Police Medal for Distinguished Investigation - 2024 and 2025; Tamil Nadu Chief Minister's Police Medal for Best Police Service (Anna Medal) - 2024 and 2025; Tamil Nadu Chief Minister's Medal for Distinguished Technology and Special Service - 2024 and 2025; Tamil Nadu Chief Minister's Fingerprint Science Distinguished Service Medal - 2024 and 2025; and Tamil Nadu Chief Minister's Police Medal for Distinguished Intelligence and Special Achievement - 2026. The Hon'ble Chief Minister presented and felicitated these medals today to a total of 527 police officers/personnel — comprising 2 Director Generals of Police, 3 Additional Directors General of Police, 16 Inspectors General of Police, 6 Deputy Inspectors General of Police, 35 Superintendents of Police, 26 Additional Superintendents of Police, 80 Deputy Superintendents of Police, 147 Inspectors of Police, 66 Sub-Inspectors of Police, 90 Special Sub-Inspectors of Police, 46 Head Constables, 3 Second Grade Constables, 1 Special Wing Assistant and 6 Senior Photography Experts — together with 21 personnel of the Prisons Department, 57 personnel of the Fire and Rescue Services Department, 8 personnel of the Forensic Science Department and 17 personnel of the Village Police Force, taking the overall total to 630 police officers/personnel, along with personnel of other departments. Presentation of 42 new four-wheeler and 96 two-wheeler patrol vehicles for the Coastal Security Group In order to protect the entire 1,076 km coastline of Tamil Nadu spanning 14 coastal districts from Tiruvallur to Kanniyakumari, to carry out surveillance and patrol duties effectively in these areas, to improve the operational efficiency of coastal police stations, and to prevent unlawful activities occurring along coastal areas and sea routes, the Hon'ble Chief Minister flagged off the service of 42 new four-wheeler and 96 two-wheeler patrol vehicles procured for the Coastal Security Group at a cost of Rs.8,27,35,407. Further, at this medal presentation function, in the presence of the Hon'ble Chief Minister, sniffer dog stunt shows, a march-past by police personnel, a two-wheeler stunt show by police personnel, and cultural programmes were held.
