CM hands Rs 80 lakh cash incentives to three Commonwealth Games medal winners

PRESS RELEASE Hon'ble Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Thiru S. Joseph Vijay presented cheques totalling Rs.80 lakh as high cash incentives to Tamil Nadu sportspersons Thiru Raja Muthupandi, Thiru Praveen Chithravel and Thiru Selva Prabhu, who won medals at the Commonwealth Games - 2026 ******** The Government of Tamil Nadu has been taking various systematic measures — including providing appropriate training, high cash incentives, and creating sports infrastructure facilities — to enable Tamil Nadu sportsmen and sportswomen to participate and win in various national and international sporting competitions, with the aim of making Tamil Nadu the foremost state in India in the field of sports. In this regard, Hon'ble Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Thiru S. Joseph Vijay presented and felicitated, at the Secretariat today (5.8.2026): Thiru Raja Muthupandi of Thoothukudi district, who won a silver medal in the men's 65 kg weightlifting event at the Commonwealth Games held in Glasgow, Scotland, with a cheque for Rs.30 lakh as a high cash incentive; Thiru Praveen Chithravel of Tiruvarur district, a former hostel student of the Tamil Nadu Sports Development Authority and currently employed with the Tamil Nadu Newsprint and Papers Limited under the 3 percent reservation for sportspersons in government employment, who won a silver medal in the men's triple jump event, with a cheque for Rs.30 lakh presented to his father Thiru S. Chithravel; and Thiru Selva Prabhu of Madurai district, also a former hostel student of the Tamil Nadu Sports Development Authority, who won a bronze medal in the men's triple jump event, with a cheque for Rs.20 lakh.
