CM announces Rs 10 crore for Chennai Open WTA-250 tennis tournament in November

PRESS RELEASE Hon'ble Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Thiru S. Joseph Vijay announces Rs.10 crore fund allocation to host the 2026 Chennai Open International Women's Tennis Championship (WTA-250) Tamil Nadu Tennis Association President Thiru Vijay Amritraj, Chief Executive Officer Thiru Hilton D'Souza, tournament coordinator Thiru B. Prashanth, and Honorary Secretary Thiru N. Sengadesh met and held discussions with Hon'ble Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Thiru S. Joseph Vijay today (4.08.2026) at the Secretariat, regarding the hosting of the 2026 Chennai Open International Women's Tennis Championship (WTA-250). The Tamil Nadu Sports Development Authority, jointly with the Tamil Nadu Tennis Association, will host the "Chennai Open WTA 250 International Women's Tennis Championship – 2026" in November 2026 at the Tennis Stadium of the Tamil Nadu Sports Development Authority located at Nungambakkam, Chennai. The Hon'ble Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu has announced that the Government of Tamil Nadu will allocate a fund of Rs.10 crore to ensure this tournament is conducted in a grand manner. Leading women tennis players from around the world are expected to participate in this year's tournament. The event will further elevate Tamil Nadu on the global sporting stage, promote sports tourism, and provide fresh inspiration to young sportsmen and sportswomen. By continuing to host international-standard sporting events, the Government of Tamil Nadu is undertaking various initiatives to establish Tamil Nadu as a world-class sports hub, enhance sporting skills, and create excellent opportunities for the younger generation. The meeting was also attended by Hon'ble Minister for Public Works and Sports Development Thiru Aadhav Arjuna, Chief Secretary Dr. M. Vaikundam, IAS, Secretary of Youth Welfare and Sports Development Department Thiru Sandeep Nanduri, IAS, and Member Secretary of the Tamil Nadu Sports Development Authority Thiru J.
