Joseph Vijay, at the Secretariat today (4.8.2026), on behalf of the Health and Family Welfare Department, through video conference, inaugurated additional buildings built at a cost of Rs.113 crore at Aranthangi Government District Headquarters Hospital, and at the Pallipattu, Podatturpettai, Athur, Marakkanam and Vazhavanur Government Hospitals; a newly established Radiation Therapy Centre at Kanniyakumari Government Medical College Hospital; and 4 newly built Primary Health Centres, 12 Health Sub-Centres, and 2 Urban Public Health Centres; and also commissioned the use of modern medical equipment. Details of medical buildings inaugurated by the Hon'ble Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu Pudukkottai district, Aranthangi Government District Headquarters Hospital: Currently functioning with 174 beds. An additional ground-plus-six-floor building costing Rs.46 crore has been constructed, and ultra-modern equipment worth Rs.2.81 crore procured, upgrading it to a District Headquarters Hospital with improved basic infrastructure. This building houses an outpatient department, emergency department, ECG, echo, X-ray, CT scan, operation theatre, dialysis unit, ENT department, paediatric department, ICU, a One Stop Centre, male and female inpatient wards, a blood bank, a Chief Minister's Comprehensive Health Insurance Scheme treatment ward, a poison treatment ward, a special inpatient ward, a pharmacy, and an administrative office. Virudhunagar district, Sivakasi Government Hospital: Currently functioning with 140 beds, with a well-functioning accident and emergency department, a specialised burns treatment unit, and a special neonatal care unit. A new ground-plus-six-floor building, estimated at Rs.28.80 crore, has been constructed combining the ICU and the Maternal Child Health Wing. Further, medical equipment worth Rs.3.85 crore has been procured. The building has been equipped with an outer security post, a central oxygen system, CCTV cameras, LAN connections, fire safety equipment, and a lift, with the ICU capacity increased by 50 beds and the maternity wing by 100 beds, taking the total bed strength of Sivakasi Government Hospital from the existing 140 to 290 beds. Tiruvallur district, Pallipattu Government Hospital: Currently functioning with 38 beds. An additional building costing Rs.1.75 crore has been constructed, housing an accident and ICU ward, nursing room, visitor enquiry room, outpatient registration area, waiting room, pharmacy, radiology registration, dental consultation, women's medical consultation, men's medical consultation, laboratory, cervical and breast screening centre, community outreach medicine, chief medical officer's room, the Chief Minister's Comprehensive Health Insurance Scheme, and a CMCHIS ward for men and women. Tiruvallur district, Podatturpettai Government Hospital: Currently functioning with 36 beds. An additional building costing Rs.1.05 crore has been constructed, housing a waiting room, medical stores, radiology unit, dental unit, laboratory, chief medical officer's room, inpatient ward, and toilets. Dindigul district, Athur Government Hospital: Currently functioning with 60 beds. Radiation Therapy Centre at Kanniyakumari Government Medical College Hospital: With the objective of providing comprehensive cancer treatment, a radiotherapy bunker building with 20 inpatient beds has been built at a cost of Rs.4 crore, along with a radiation therapy machine costing Rs.2.78 crore, together forming a new Radiation Therapy Centre established at a total cost of Rs.6.78 crore. Set up under the World Bank-assisted Tamil Nadu Health System Reform Programme, this centre will play a key role in cancer radiotherapy, reducing the need for patients from Kanniyakumari and surrounding areas to travel long distances to hospitals in Thiruvananthapuram, Madurai, Tirunelveli or Chennai, saving time and increasing access to timely, quality treatment. Directorate of Public Health and Preventive Medicine: On behalf of the Directorate, 4 Primary Health Centre buildings built at a cost of Rs.11 crore 45 lakh in Kallakurichi, Salem, Tirupattur and Tiruvannamalai districts; 12 rural and urban Health Sub-Centres built in Kallakurichi, Pudukkottai, Salem, Tirupattur and Tiruvannamalai districts; and 2 Urban Public Health Units built in Salem district.
