Joseph Vijay today (3.8.2026) personally visited and reviewed the operations of the Saint-Gobain glass manufacturing plant located at the SIPCOT industrial estate, Sriperumbudur, Kanchipuram district, and the Renault car manufacturing plant located at the SIPCOT industrial estate, Oragadam. He also reviewed the ongoing project works at the SIPCOT project office, Oragadam. Saint-Gobain glass manufacturing plant The Hon'ble Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu personally visited Saint-Gobain's glass manufacturing plant — one of Asia's largest integrated glass manufacturing units — located at the SIPCOT industrial estate, Sriperumbudur, Kanchipuram district, viewed the central control room, and enquired with senior officials of the company about the manufacture of Float Glass, Coated Glass, Laminated Glass, and fire-resistant, high-safety glass produced at the facility. Following this, after viewing the section where glass manufacturing materials are handled through robotic machinery, the Hon'ble Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu interacted with trainees of the "Learn and Earn" social initiative launched by Saint-Gobain to educate and provide employment to underprivileged students, and enquired about the methods by which, in partnership with Learn While Earn (LWE) and the Nettur Technical Training Foundation (NTTF), students at the training school learn, earn a diploma, and gain the opportunity to work at the company itself. The senior officials of the company also explained to the Hon'ble Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu the rainwater harvesting centre, urban afforestation, butterfly garden and other natural sustainability initiatives, as well as the Industry 4.0 innovation excellence centre established within the plant premises. To commemorate his visit to the facility, the Hon'ble Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu signed a glass installation placed there, planted a sapling on the premises, and took a group photograph with all the women employees in front of a mural. The event was attended by Saint-Gobain's Chief Operating Officer for Asia-Pacific and India Thiru N. Sridhar, Managing Directors Thiru A.R. Unnikrishnan and Thiru K.S. Gopalakrishnan, National Operations Head Thiru Venkat Murugan, and other senior officials of the company. Renault car manufacturing plant Visiting the Renault car manufacturing plant located at the SIPCOT industrial estate, Oragadam, the Hon'ble Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu viewed the parts-fitting section and the quality assurance section of the car manufacturing process. Subsequently, the Hon'ble Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu personally drove a new-generation Renault Duster on the plant's Long Test Track, driving through Track 3 and Track 4 to review the vehicle's performance. The event was attended by Renault Group's Chief Operating Officer for India Thiru Stephane Deblaise and other senior officials. Review at the SIPCOT project office, Oragadam At the SIPCOT project office at Oragadam, the Hon'ble Minister for Industries and the Additional Chief Secretary of Industries, Investment Promotion and Commerce Department gave the Hon'ble Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu a detailed briefing on the works being undertaken at the SIPCOT project office.
