As per the orders of the Hon'ble Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu, free WiFi facilities at 32 locations across Marina Beach and Besant Nagar Beach areas within Greater Chennai Corporation have been repaired and restored to public use from today (10.08.2026). The Hon'ble Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu has been systematically working towards the development of Artificial Intelligence, Information Technology and Digital Services, and towards making services easily accessible to the public. As part of this, in accordance with the orders of the Hon'ble Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu, as a first phase, steps have been taken to provide high-quality free WiFi facilities so that people can access the internet without interruption at the beach areas most frequented by the public in Chennai — Marina, Besant Nagar and Tiruvanmiyur beaches. Of these, non-functional free WiFi facilities at 32 locations across Marina Beach and Besant Nagar Beach have been restored to use from today. Free WiFi facility has been made available to the public from today (10.08.2026) at 27 locations spanning from the Labour Statue to the Lighthouse along Marina Beach, within Greater Chennai Corporation, and at 5 locations along Besant Nagar Beach. To use this WiFi facility, members of the public need to turn on WiFi on their mobile phones, click on the network, scan the QR code that appears, and enter the OTP received on their mobile number, after which the WiFi connection will be established. The public can use this facility free of charge. Following this, efforts are underway to restore non-functional WiFi facilities and to establish new WiFi facilities at other locations frequented by the public, including other beach areas, parks and sports grounds.
