As per the guidance of the Hon'ble Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu, Hon'ble Minister for Health, Medical Education and Family Welfare Dr. Ko.K. Arunraj released the rank list for undergraduate Medicine, Dental and Allied Medical degree courses for 2026-27
Hon'ble Minister for Health, Medical Education and Family Welfare Dr. Ko.K. Arunraj released, today (10.08.2026), at the Directorate of Medical Education and Research at Kilpauk, Chennai, the rank list of candidates for admission to undergraduate Medicine (MBBS), Dental (BDS) and Allied & Health Care Courses for the academic year 2026-2027.
Speaking to reporters thereafter, the Hon'ble Minister for Health, Medical Education and Family Welfare stated the following:
The Selection Committee, on behalf of the Directorate of Medical Education and Research, had announced 23.07.2026, 5.00 p.m. as the deadline for online applications for admission to Government quota seats in Medicine and Dentistry, Government quota seats in self-financing medical colleges, and Management quota seats in self-financing medical colleges for the year 2026-2027, from 29.06.2026, with a further window from 26.07.2026, 10.00 a.m. to 27.07.2026, 3.00 p.m.
The total number of applications received so far is 72,633. Of these, 4,860 applications were received for the internal reservation of 7.5% for Government school students. 468 applications were received for the Sports quota. 524 applications were received for the Ex-Servicemen quota. 212 applications were received for the Differently-abled quota. After scrutinising all applications received, the rank list for Medicine and Dentistry courses, and the list for the 7.5% internal reservation for Government school students, have now been released.
The number of applications received from students for Government quota seats for Medicine and Dentistry admission for the year 2026-2027 is 41,726, of which 35,926 were accepted, comprising 12,551 male and 23,375 female candidates.
The number of applications received from students for Government quota seats under the 7.5% internal reservation for Government school students for Medicine and Dentistry admission for 2026-2027 is 4,860, of which 3,625 total applications were accepted, comprising 981 male and 2,644 female candidates.
The number of applications received from students for Management Quota seats in self-financing medical and dental colleges is 30,907, of which 26,956 are eligible, comprising 9,105 male and 17,851 female candidates.
Government quota seats: The total number of seats for MBBS is 7,157. Of these, the State Quota in Government medical colleges accounts for 4,473 seats, and Government quota seats in self-financing medical colleges account for 2,684 seats.
The total number of seats for BDS is 1,383. Of these, 213 seats are in Government dental colleges, and 1,170 are Government quota seats in self-financing dental colleges.
7.5% reservation seats: The total number of MBBS seats under the 7.5% reservation is 537, of which 335 are in Government medical colleges and 202 are Government quota seats in self-financing medical colleges. The total number of BDS seats under the 7.5% reservation, in Government dental colleges and Government quota seats in self-financing dental colleges, is 104, comprising 16 seats in Government dental colleges and 88 seats in self-financing dental colleges.
Management quota seats: Among Management Quota seats in self-financing medical and dental colleges, 1,966 MBBS seats and 580 BDS seats are available under Management Quota in private medical colleges.
Allied and Health Care Courses: The notification for allied courses — B.Sc. Nursing, B.Pharm, Allied Medical courses, Pharm.D (6-year and 3-year), DGNM, and Diploma in Pharmacy — was released on 21.06.2026. Online applications for all the above courses were received from 21.06.2026 to 12.07.2026. With the verification of received applications now complete, the rank list is being released today.

This year, for the first time since 2021, Government medical colleges have secured an additional 150 MBBS seats compared to last year, for the 2026-2027 academic year. Three Government medical colleges — Tiruppur, Tiruvallur and Namakkal — have each received 50 additional seats. Private medical colleges have gained a total of 700 additional seats. The overall total of MBBS seats in Tamil Nadu is 9,999, and BDS dental seats total 2,000.
Further, sufficient time and an opportunity to correct applications were provided during the application process. However, since counselling will be conducted in synchronisation with the Union Government, no change in schedule or extension of time can be granted. Therefore, students must without fail attend counselling as per the schedule specified on the Tamil Nadu State Selection Committee website, said Hon'ble Minister for Health, Medical Education and Family Welfare Dr. Ko.K. Arunraj.
