Speaker Prabhakar Inspects Thousand Lights Constituency, Orders Sewage Fix Within 15 Days

Radha Nagar areas under the Chennai Thousand Lights Assembly constituency, heard out the grievances of the people and directed officials to take appropriate action on them. The Hon'ble Speaker of the Tamil Nadu Legislative Assembly, Thiru. P.C.D. Prakash, today (16.05.2026) inspected basic amenities in the residential area of Ward-118, Avvai Shanmugam Salai, in the Chennai Thousand Lights Assembly constituency, heard the grievances of residents there, and directed officials to take appropriate action on them. Following this, he inspected basic amenities in the residential area of the Tamil Nadu Urban Habitat Development Board (formerly Slum Clearance Board) at Ward-117, Sivashanmugapuram and M.K. Radha Nagar, heard the grievances of residents while visiting the area, and directed officials to take appropriate action on them. During this visit, he thanked the voting public for electing him with a huge majority of votes in the Thousand Lights Assembly constituency. Speaking to reporters during these visits, the Hon'ble Speaker stated: On behalf of the Tamilaga Vetrik Kazhagam, after winning with the blessings of our esteemed Chief Minister, rather than the customary practice of merely thanking the people, I have today begun a somewhat different exercise — directly meeting the people and telling them how we intend to resolve the problems I had already learnt about. I express my thanks and regards to the voting public who gave me a huge majority of votes and made me win in the Thousand Lights Assembly constituency. I discovered during my election campaign that the Thousand Lights Assembly constituency has a number of problems. Families living in small lanes along Avvai Shanmugam Salai in the Thousand Lights constituency have been residing there for four or five generations. When I visited this area as a candidate during the election campaign, they conveyed many demands to me. I promised the people that I would fulfil all their demands. I had promised that Avvai Shanmugam Salai would be the first place I would visit after winning, and that I would come and see them — in keeping with that promise, I have visited this area today and conducted this inspection. I have directed officials that the sewage problem for the people living on Avvai Shanmugam Salai will be completely resolved within a month, a temporary road will be laid within a month, and road facilities will be provided without disrupting traffic. Similarly, while inspecting the Tamil Nadu Urban Habitat Development Board residential areas of M.K. Radha Nagar and Sivashanmugapuram, the residents took me and showed me how sewage water was stagnating there. I have directed officials that the sewage must be removed immediately, and that a permanent, unobstructed sewage outflow facility must be regularised here. The officials said they would complete this within ten days. I told them to take five more days if needed, but that it must be completed within fifteen days. I have made clear that when I return to inspect this place, the people should be thanking this government and the Chief Minister with folded hands. The residential buildings of the Tamil Nadu Urban Habitat Development Board in M.K. Radha Nagar and Sivashanmugapuram have become old. There is a demand that new houses be built. Plans for this are being duly prepared. The Hon'ble Chief Minister will soon make an announcement in this regard. Efforts will be made to ensure that, as far as possible, the old buildings are demolished and the new houses are allotted to the very same existing residents. Similarly, orders have already been obtained for the demolition of the residential buildings at Nakkeeran Nagar and Sivashanmugapuram, and we have begun that work shortly. I have directed officials to take steps to prevent sewage stagnation until the buildings are demolished. The people residing in this area need not worry about anything. I have told them that whatever the problem, they should tell me, and that I will arrange facilities for them to live in health and prosperity. I consider fulfilling the basic needs of the people to be my fundamental duty. By God's grace, we have a Chief Minister whom the people cherish and love. I sincerely state that, with his permission and blessings, I will certainly accomplish all these tasks. Under the banner of "1,000 Works" in the Thousand Lights constituency, we are set to carry out all these works. Tomorrow evening, we will visit all the sports grounds in the Thousand Lights constituency. We will find out what the sportspersons playing in these grounds need and undertake the necessary works for them. Arrangements will be made to set up sports facilities. All the public welfare associations in the Thousand Lights constituency will be invited zone-wise, and public welfare works will be carried out in association with them. Our Chief Minister knows very well what needs to be done and when. Accordingly, our Chief Minister will provide everything the public needs at the appropriate time. Both factions within the AIADMK have submitted petitions regarding the appointment of a coordinator. All such petitions are under review.
