Hon'ble Minister for Labour Welfare and Skill Development Thiru J. Mohamed Parvez inaugurated training classes at Government Industrial Training Institutes
In Tamil Nadu, 132 Government Industrial Training Institutes (ITIs) with 36,344 seats and 277 Private ITIs with 26,388 seats are functioning under the Department of Employment and Training. Training is imparted across 70 engineering and 34 non-engineering trades. In Government ITIs, training is offered in popular traditional trades like Fitter, Electrician, AC Mechanic, Welder, and Computer operations, as well as Industry 4.0 standard modern trades such as Advanced CNC, Robotics, and Electric Vehicles. Admissions across all ITIs are open until 31.08.2026. Every academic year, classes commence in the month of August. Accordingly, in a function held on 14.08.2026 at the Guindy Government ITI, the Hon'ble Minister for Labour Welfare and Skill Development inaugurated the classes for the academic year 2026-27 and distributed free textbooks, uniforms, footwear, and drawing kits to students.
95% of students who completed training in Government ITIs in the previous year secured employment in leading industrial enterprises. The Minister handed over appointment orders to 10 of these students.
The Minister also presented cash prizes of Rs. 50,000/- each and appreciation certificates to 5 teams comprising 17 trainees from Government ITIs who won in the 9th State-level Creativity Competitions conducted by the department in June 2026. Furthermore, appreciation certificates were awarded to the Principals of Government ITIs that achieved 100% admissions in the 2026 academic year.
Thiru K. Veera Raghava Rao, IAS, Secretary to Government, Labour Welfare and Skill Development Department, Dr. C. Palani, IAS, Director of Employment and Training, senior departmental officials, and industry representatives participated in the event.
