Joseph Vijay in the Tamil Nadu Legislative Assembly under Rule 110 Regarding Additional Waiver for Crop Loans Disbursed to Farmers through Cooperative Banks Hon'ble Speaker, "If the people of Tamil Nadu are our life, the farmers of Tamil Nadu are our lifeline." Despite financial constraints, within 15 days of assuming office on 25.05.2026, crop loans up to Rs. 50,000 were ordered to be waived. Subsequently, this was enhanced on 19.06.2026 to provide full waiver for loans up to Rs. 75,000 and Rs. 35,000 for loans above Rs. 75,000, releasing Rs. 5,267 crore into 13.34 lakh farmers' accounts up to 31.07.2026. Following consultations with farmer associations on 07.08.2026 and adhering to RBI's guidelines dated 28.11.2025 requiring governments to settle loan waiver dues with cooperative banks within 45 to 60 days, the government has decided to provide the following additional crop loan waiver: 1. 100% Full Waiver for crop loans up to Rs. 75,000/-. 2. Maximum waiver up to Rs. 75,000/- for crop loans between Rs. 75,000/- and Rs. 1,00,000/-. 3. Maximum waiver up to Rs. 35,000/- for crop loans above Rs. 1,00,000/-. Through this, 2,38,264 farmers with loans between Rs. 75,000 and Rs. 1,00,000 receive an additional waiver of up to Rs. 40,000 beyond previous limits. Incurring an additional fiscal burden of Rs. 953.06 crore, the government extends total cooperative crop loan waivers worth Rs. 6,220 crore to approximately 13.34 lakh farmers. •••••• Issued By: - DIPR, Secretariat, Chennai – 9
