Joseph Vijay Flagged Off 250 New Buses Worth Rs. 290.08 Crore on Behalf of Metropolitan Transport Corporation (MTC) and Tamil Nadu State Transport Corporations (TNSTC) Hon'ble Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu Thiru S. Joseph Vijay today (25.08.2026) at the Secretariat flagged off 250 new buses procured at a total cost of Rs. 290 crore and 8 lakh for public use. Inauguration of 130 New Low-Floor Air-Conditioned Electric Buses for MTC: To reduce urban environmental pollution in Chennai, 625 low-floor electric buses procured at a cost of Rs. 697 crore are currently operated through 5 depots. Following this, under the plan to induct 750 new low-floor AC electric buses worth Rs. 1,337 crore across 7 depots, the Chief Minister flagged off the first batch of 130 low-floor AC electric buses procured at a cost of Rs. 234 crore and 50 lakh. Inauguration of 120 New Buses for TNSTC: Under the program to induct 1,614 new buses at an outlay of Rs. 756 crore for TNSTCs, the Chief Minister flagged off the first batch of 120 new buses procured at a cost of Rs. 55 crore and 58 lakh across 6 State Transport Corporations.
