Joseph Vijay in the Tamil Nadu Legislative Assembly under Rule 110 Regarding New Power Infrastructure Projects on behalf of the Energy Department Hon'ble Speaker, To power Tamil Nadu's expanding economy and rising power consumption, the following landmark power infrastructure projects are announced: 1. Tamil Nadu Transmission Improvement Scheme (Rs. 33,066 Crore): To evacuate power efficiently to major load centres like Chennai, 196 new sub-stations and 15,000 km of new transmission corridors will be erected alongside grid strengthening. 2. New Supercritical Thermal Power Station in Thoothukudi (Rs. 20,800 Crore): To provide round-the-clock base load stability and phase out older sub-critical units, a state-of-the-art 1,600 MW (2x800 MW) Supercritical Thermal Power Station will be established under Public-Private Partnership (PPP) mode in Thoothukudi. 3. Power Distribution Network Modernization in Chennai (Rs. 1,762 Crore): To ensure uninterrupted urban power supply during monsoons and summer peaks, 36 new 33/11 kV sub-stations, new distribution transformers, and renewal of obsolete cables and switchgear will be executed. ***** Issued By: - DIPR, Secretariat, Chennai – 9
