Update from Hon'ble Minister for Public Works and Sports Development Thiru Aadhav Arjuna. ------------------------------------------------------ Ahead of the All India Under-18 Basketball Championship to be held in Puducherry from 22.05.2026 to 29.05.2026, Hon'ble Minister for Public Works and Sports Development Thiru Aadhav Arjuna today (20.05.2026) met and wished the Tamil Nadu Junior Basketball men's and women's teams at the Nehru Indoor Stadium, Chennai. At the event, the Hon'ble Minister for Sports Development spoke as follows. The Hon'ble Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu is paying special attention to the advancement of the younger generation. As part of this, athletes and sportswomen who show interest in sports are being identified and, through the Sports Development Department, being transformed into achievers under long-term action plans. Like you, I too was once a hostel student and a basketball player who progressed step by step through hard work, and today I stand before you as the Minister for Sports Development. Looking at all of you brings back fond memories of my own basketball training days. The Hon'ble Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu is undertaking various measures to provide proper guidance to young people like you and help you become achievers. In that spirit, I am ready to provide whatever you, as athletes, may need. Generally, perseverance and hard work are essential to achieving success. In particular, after sports training hours and a short period of rest, one must immediately focus on studies. Only if all athletes complete their higher education without fail can senior officials select them for appropriate positions when sports department job allocations are made. Athletes are generally regarded as an example of self-confidence. In that spirit, I wish you all the best to play well and win in the upcoming competition, bringing honour to Tamil Nadu, your coaches, and your parents.
